Ventura County Search and Rescue East Valley Team 3 (VCSAR 3) is comprised of highly dedicated and skilled volunteers who are able to respond to wilderness emergencies in Ventura County. VCSAR 3 team members are extensively trained in search techniques, technical rope rescue, tracking, swiftwater rescue, communications, winter operations, urban search and rescue, and search management. For over 25 years, VCSAR Team 3 has participated in wilderness and urban search and rescue operations under the direction of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. The VCSAR 3 team has met the rigorous requirements of the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) since 1989 and is a member of the California Region of the MRA. The VCSAR 3 team's response area includes the Ventura County portion of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Susanna Mountains. The VCSAR 3 team assists the other search and rescue teams in Ventura County: Fillmore, Upper Ojai, Dive, Canine, Posse, and Medical. The VCSAR 3 team is capable of responding outside of Ventura County and has assisted is search and rescue operations in the Sierras and throughout the State of California.

July 10,, 2015: Missing Hiker - Ventana Wilderness, Los Padres National Forest

07/10/15, Friday 19:00 Hours - 07/13/15, Monday 02:00 Hours

A 76-year-old male hiker left out of a campground near Big Sur on Wednesday, 7/8/15, for a day hike. He did not return. The Monterey County Search and Rescue including other teams from the Bay Area conducted a search of the area for two days. The East Valley team along with the Fillmore and Upper Ojai team were requested to assist on the search over the weekend. Nine East Valley members responded.

April 28, 2015: Missing Hiker - Mount San Jacinto State Park

04/23/15, Tuesday 04:00 - 21:00 Hours

A 34-year-old male was on a day hike with several other hikers on Saturday, 4/25/15, to San Jacinto Peak. The weather started to turn for the worse and the hiking party turned around to head back down at the 10,000 foot level. The subject got separated from the party and call 911 for help. The Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit responded to search for the subject. A strong storm came through that dump several inches of snow and iced over the trees. Several other teams from other counties responded to assist with the search.

April 23, 2015: Missing Person - Mugu Rock

04/23/15, Thursday 15:30 - 21:00 Hours

The team was called out to search for a missing person along the Pacific Coast Highway near Mugu Rock. Team members searched the rocky coastline until they located the deceased subject in the rocks. Members rappelled down into the surf to access the subject. A rope system was set up to raise the subject up to the highway.

April 4, 2015: Mutual Aid - Isla Vista

04/04/15, Saturday 14:00 - 23:00 Hours

The students of University of Santa Barbara held a street party call "Deltopia" on the streets of Isla Vista. Members of the East Valley team, Fillmore, and Upper Ojai assisted the Santa Barbara Search and Rescue team with medical response in the area. There were several medical calls that the field teams responded to treat and transport the patients.
