12/17/08, Wednesday, 17:30 - 24:00 Hours
ELT Activation
Ojai and Santa Paula Area
The Ventura County Sheriff's Dept. received notification from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center that they received an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ETL) signal which may indicate an aircraft crash. The Santa Barbara SAR team was following the signal into Ventura County. East Valley team members along with Ojai team members used signal locating receivers to triangulate the location of the signal. The Santa Barbara SAR team located the beacon. There was no emergency. The owner was advised to turn the beacon off.

PLB Activation
West Simi Valley Area
The Ventura County Sheriff's Dept. received notification from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center that they received a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) activation in the west Simi Valley area. PLBs are used to indicate a person in distress in the backcountry. Team members responded to locate the beacon using signal locating receivers. The signal disappeared. It was suspected that someone was testing their new Christmas gift by activating the PLB then later turning it off.

Two Missing Teenagers
Ojai, Los Padres National Forest
Two teenagers went missing from a boarding school in Ojai on December 5. The Ventura County Sheriff Dept. was notified on December 6 and activated all three county mountain teams. The trails and fields surrounding the remote school were searched. After further investigation it was determined that the teenagers were probable runaways and the search was suspended. UPDATE 12/09/08: The two teens were found safe outside the search area.

11/06/08, Tuesday, 21:00 Hours - 11/09/08, Sunday, 23:00 Hours
Missing Hunter
Dinkey Creek Area, Sierra National Forest
A man went hunting on Thursday, October 30, in the Sierra National Forest. After he did not return by Monday, November 3, the family notified the Fresno Sheriff's Dept. The East Valley team along with Fillmore and Upper Ojai teams from Ventura County responded to the statewide mutual aid call. The team searched for three days. One of the search day was during a snow storm. The Fresno County Sheriff's Dept. suspended the search on November 13.

10/13/08, Tuesday, 07:30 - 13:00 Hours
Recovery Operation
Deer Creek Rd.
The team recovered the body of a victim of a vehicle that went over the side of the road. The Ventura Sheriff's copter short hauled the victim to the road.

10/13/08, Monday, 11:00 - 19:00 Hours
Sesnon Fire Evacuations
East Ventura County
The team assisted in issuing evacuation notice to residents of the east Ventura County area due to the approaching Sesnon Fire.

10/11/08, Saturday,10:00 - 12:00 Hours
Missing Man
Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Park
An elderly man went missing from his home the day before after going for a walk. The Los Angeles Police Dept. requested the East Valley team to search the park. The missing man was found by a National Park Service ranger along a trail in good condition.

05/12/08, Monday, 08:30 - 10:00 Hours
Missing Man
Sage Ranch
A despondent man went into Sage Ranch and did not return. The team responded to search for the man. The missing man walked out of the park when the team arrived.

06/10/08, Tuesday, 19:00 Hours - 06/11/08, Wednesday, 22:00 Hours
Missing Man
Glacier Point, Yosemite National Park
The A 24-year-old man went missing from the Washburn Point overlook on the afternoon of Sunday, June 8. The East Valley team along with the Fillmore team responded to assist with the search effort. The team search around the place last seen. The subject was found around 2:15 p.m. 5 miles from place last seen in good condition. View photo of the search area in the operations gallery.

Recovery Operation

The team recovered the body of a victim of a vehicle that went over the side of the road. The Ventura Sheriff's copter short hauled the victim to the road.

03/04/08, Tuesday, 19:20 - 22:30 Hours
Two Lost Hikers
Mugu State Park
Two male hikers in their twenties went for a hike in the Mugu State Park and got lost once it got dark. The subjects call 911 and the East Valley Team responded. The subjects were found on a fire road near La Jolla Valley and were driven back to their vehicle.

01/12/08, Saturday, 04:00 Hours - 01/23/08, Sunday, 23:00 Hours
Lost Hiker
Green Valley, San Bernardino National Forest
A 62-year-old man went for a hike on Friday, January 8, from his Green Valley cabin into the San Bernardino mountains near Big Bear. White-out conditions occurred and the hiker lost his bearings. The hiker made two 911 calls to say that he was lost. A heavy winter storm hit the next day. The San Bernardino teams searched for a week. The East Valley team along with many other search teams were requested on January 12, to assist. The East Valley team searched for two days. The search was suspended on Sunday evening. View photos of the search in the gallery. UPDATE 4/05/08: Members of the San Bernardino search and rescue team found the body of the missing subject on 4/04/08.
