"Shekell" Fire Evacuation and Support
Moorpark
The East Valley team assisted with evacuation in the Moorpark area due to a large brush fire.

11/17/06, Friday, 20:30 Hours – 23:30 Hours
Missing Hiker
Sycamore Canyon Area, Point Mugu State Park
A 60-year-old man went out for an evening hike and missed a turn on the trail. Team members were dispatched through out the canyon. A Ventura County Sheriff helicopter spotted the hiker in good condition and returned the man back to the command post.

"Day" Fire Evacuation and Support
Upper Ojai Area
The East Valley team along with the Upper Ojai team assisted with evacuation notifications in the Upper Ojai area due to the large "Day" fire in the Los Padres National Forest. Some of the team members were flown into the backcountry to assist in evacuating backpackers in the path of the fire. The team was kept on alert while the team was not out in the field.

Two Missing Hikers
La Jolla Valley, Point Mugu State Park
Two day hikers called the Sheriff's Department to say they could not find their way back to the trailhead. The East Valley Team was dispatched to help the hikers. The first team members who arrived found the subjects near the trailhead in good condition.

Evidence Search
Somis
The East Valley team was requested to assist the CHP and Ventura County Sheriff detectives for evidence around an abandoned car on Hwy. 118 in Somis.

05/11/06, Thursday, 22:15 Hours – 05/12/06, Friday, 06:00 Hours
Four Missing Hikers
Boney Mountain, Circle X Ranch National Recreation Area / Point Mugu State Park

Four male hikers left the Sandstone Peak Trailhead and headed towards Tri-Peaks. After reaching the peaks darkness fell and the hikers became disorientated and tired. They contacted the Ventura County Sheriff Department and the East Valley team was called out at 22:15 hours. One team went on foot from the Satwiwa Trailhead while three teams went by ATVs from the Sandstone Peak Trailhead. The teams made visual contact with the subject who had a flashlight. Once the subjects were located and checked out, they were hiked out to the ATVs and given a ride back to their vehicles.

05/05/06, Friday, 17:30 Hours – 05/06/06, Saturday, 09:00 Hours
Missing Man
Mt. Pinos, Los Padres National Forest

A 66-year-old man wandered away from the Chula Vista campground around 13:00 hours. Search teams from Kern County and Ventura County were dispatched around 17:00 hours. Teams searched around the campground throughout the night in the snow with the temperatures dropping down 25 degrees. As the search was getting started for the seconded day the missing man walked into a camp at the base of the mountain several miles away. The missing man was flown to a hospital for treatment of bruises and hypothermia. Teams assisting the search included East Valley, Fillmore, Upper Ojai, Ventura Canine SAR, Kern County SAR, and China Lake Mountain Rescue.

02/11/06, Saturday, 01:20 Hours – 07:00 Hours
Three Missing Hikers
Conejo Mountain, Camarillo

Three men went for a short hike up Conejo Mountain behind their office after work. They lost the trail and once darkness fell they were unable to find the trail. The subjects tried bushwhacking down the hill but the vegetation was too thick so they decided to spend the night where they were. A friend found out that the subjects were overdue and contacted the Sheriff's department. The East Valley team was called out at 01:20 hours. The fog had rolled in precluding any air support. Field teams tracked the subject and around 05:00 hours were able to make voice contact with the subjects. The field teams accessed the subjects through thick vegetation and walked them off the hill.

01/02/06, Monday, 02:45 Hours – 07:00 Hours
Stranded Off-Roaders
Big Mountain Area, Simi Valley

Seven teenagers in three vehicles went for an off-road drive in the hills above Simi Valley late in the evening during a rain storm. The subjects got stuck in the mud five miles from the paved road. The East Valley team was called to access the subjects. Team members on ATVs and four-wheel drive vehicles found the subjects and gave the them a ride home.
