Missing Hiker
Mt. Pinos, Los Padres National Forest
A 64-year-old man started hiking on McGill trail in the afternoon of Wednesday, 11/24/04. He did not return to pick up his daughter at the airport. The Kern county Search and Rescue teams started searching that evening and the morning of Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. The East Valley Team along with Fillmore and Upper Ojai Ventura teams were dispatched on Thursday. Search teams checked the trail and possible destinations of the subject. Additional search teams from throughout the Southern California area assisted in the search over the following few days. The search was suspended on Monday, 11/29/04. The missing subject's body was found on Friday, 11/3/04.

Boney Mountain, Santa Monica Mountains
Two teenage boys went hiking off trail in the Boney Mountain area when darkness fell and they could not safely find their way out. Using their cell phone the boys call their parents who in turned called the Sheriff's Department. The East Valley team was called out to search for the boys.. The team went to the area where the boys last remembered and made voice contact with them. Rescue team members made their way to the boys through very heavy brush and poison oak and located the boys. The team walked the boys out to awaiting vehicles.

Missing Boy
Hanna Flats, Big Bear Lake Area, San Bernardino National Forest
The team was called out to assist the San Bernardino Search and Rescue teams for a nine-year-old boy missing since July 31, 2004, from the Hanna Flats Campground near Fawnskin. The team using both ground and ATV personnel search their assigned areas. The search was suspended on Aug. 8, 2004 at 14:00 Hours. UPDATE 6/3/05: The remains of the boy was found on May 29, 2005, in a remote area about a mile from the campsite.

Simi Valley
The East Valley team was requested on Monday and Tuesday (6/7 & 6/8) to be on hand at the command post located at East Valley Station to assist with EMT support. Teams were sent to various locations in Simi Valley and Moorpark College. An ATV team of assisted with patrols.
On Friday (6/11/04) the team has activated to assist in traffic and crowd control along the funeral procession in Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley from 12:00 to 18:00.

Missing Hiker
Skofield Park, Santa Barbara
The East Valley team along with the VCSAR Upper Ojai team responded to assist the Santa Barbara Search and Rescue team with searching for a missing 23-year-old man last seen hiking in Rattlesnake Canyon on Feb. 16, 2004, around 15:00 hours. Teams searched the hiking trails in the area throughout the night and into the morning. The missing subject contacted his father around noon on Feb. 18 after getting lost attempting to hike back to the trailhead on mountain roads and city streets.

San Gorgonio Mountain, San Bernardino National Forest
The team was called out to assist the San Bernardino search and rescue teams for a hiker missing since Jan. 18, 2004, along the Vivian Creek trail leading up to San Gorgonio peak. On Wednesday (1/21/04) the East Valley team was flown up to Dry Lake and searched the Dollar Lake area. On Thursday (2/22/04) the East Valley team hiked up the Vivian Creek trail and searched an area in the higher elevations. The missing subject's body was found on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004. Mt. Baldy, Angeles National Forest
The team was called out to assist the San Bernardino West Valley team for a hiker missing since Jan. 11, 2004, along the Bear Flat trail leading up to Mt. Baldy. The East Valley team was flown up to near the peak and searched the valley and ridge along the Bear Flat trail. The missing subject's body was found by the China Lake team around mid-day at the 8990 foot level. View photos of the search in the gallery.

Missing Hiker
Mt. Baldy, Angeles National Forest
The team was called out to assist the San Bernardino West Valley team for a hiker missing since Jan. 1, 2004, along the rugged Mt. Baldy area's Sierra Hut trail. One team started searching Friday (1/2/04) night in an ice storm and continued searching all night long. Other team members started Saturday (1/3/04) searching in clearing weather. Some team members stayed on to continue searching on Sunday (1/4/04). The West Valley team continued to search during the week. The East Valley team returned on Saturday (1/10/04). Two East Valley team members were injured with fractured legs and ankles during that day's search and had to be airlifted out. The missing subject's body was found by the West Valley team on Saturday, Jan 17, 2004, at the 8200 foot level. View photos of the search in the gallery.
