Evidence Search
Mugu Rock
A man was observed disposing body remains in the ocean. The East Valley team
along with the Dive team were called out to search for evidence along the shore
and in the water.

Stranded Campers
Los Padres National Forest
The East Valley's All-Terrain Vehicle team was dispatched to a family who's
vehicle was stuck in the mud on a dirt road to a camp several miles from the
paved highway. The team carried the family out to the main highway.

Overdue Motorcyclist
Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreational Park
A group of off-road motorcyclist were reported overdue in the off-road park.
The team searched the riding trails in the area. The missing subjects were
found walking back to camp with their motorcycles.

Monday,1230 Hours – 11/06/01, Tuesday, 0200 Hours
Overdue Mountain Bikers
Paradise Road Area, Los Padres National Forest
On Sunday, 11/04/01, two mountain bikers were reported overdue after a organized
mountain bike ride. The Santa Barbara Sheriff Search and Rescue team initiated
the search. The VCSAR East Valley team was called in to assist on the second
day of the search. A Santa Barbara Sheriff helicopter spotted the two missing
subjects. Members of the East Valley team assisted in accessing and evaluating
the subjects. One subject was suffering from dehydration and a paramedic as
transported to the scene. The two subjects were airlifted out.

Megan Barroso Search
Moorpark, Simi Valley and Surrounding Areas
Late in the evening of July 4, 2001, the car of Megan
Barroso was found on the Los Angeles Ave. off ramp of the 23 freeway. The bullet-riddle
car was
still running. There was no sign of the 20-year-old woman. On July 7, 2001,
all the Ventura County Search and Rescue teams along with members of the community
were called to search the surrounding areas. The first day of the search did
not yield any results. The East Valley team continued to search for an additional
six operational periods through out the following month. On August 4, 2001,
another major search operation was conducted managed by the East Valley team.
Along with all the other VCSAR teams, there were some members of the Los Angeles
County Search and Rescue teams, canine teams and over 200 members of the community.
The command post was established at the Simi Valley Police Department headquarters.
Search teams were sent throughout the Simi Valley area. Megan Barroso's body
was found in ravine off Black Canyon Road. See the News

Missing Hiker
Malibu State Park
The team was called to assist the Los Angeles County Sheriff Malibu Search
and Rescue team to search for an overdue elderly man who was reportedly hiking
in the Malibu State Park area. The teams searched the hiking trails and surrounding
areas. The missing subject was found at a previous residence.

Missing Person
City of Fillmore
An Alzheimer subject wandered away from his residence. The VCSAR Fillmore team
initiated a search and called the East Valley and Canine teams to assist. After
a search the area the subject was located just a block away in another residence.

Sunday, 2200 Hours – 03/25/01, Monday, 0600 Hours
Lost Hikers
Mt. Pinos, Los Padres National Forest
A couple lost the trail while hiking in the snow near Mt. Pinos. They used
their cell phone to call for help. VCSAR's East Valley and Fillmore teams responded.
The search teams located the missing subject around 0200 Hours. The male subject
was able to walk out but the female subject was unable to walk. The female
subject was placed in a litter and moved to an access road to an awaiting snow
cat. The subjects were checked out by paramedics and released.

Overdue Motorcyclist
Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreational Park
Two off-road motorcyclist failed to return back to their camp. The VCSAR's
East Valley and Fillmore teams were dispatched. Search teams on all-terrain
vehicles and motorcycles searched riding trails while teams in 4x4 vehicles
checked access roads. In the morning the two subjects were found walking on
a road. They had ridden above the snow line and got their motorcycles stuck
in the snow. They
spent the night on the mountain and hiked out in the morning.

Friday, 0500-2100 Hours
Missing Mountain Biker
Big Tujunga Canyon, Angeles National Forest
On Wednesday, January 10, 2001, Jeremy Galton and his
brother left their bikes on fire road to hike to the top of snow covered Fox
Peak. Jeremy went ahead
to the top. But when his brother got to the top, Jeremy was nowhere to be found.
The Los Angeles Sheriff Search and Rescue teams conducted a search for Jeremy
over the next two days. On Friday the call went out to the East Valley team
along with teams from San Bernardino to relieve the LA teams. Search teams
were flown to the ridge next to Fox Peak and began their search of the area
from there. One of the search teams found tracks deep in a canyon to the north
of Fox Peak. A LA Sheriff helicopter was directed down the canyon where they
spotted Jeremy waving back at them. Jeremy was hoisted up to the helicopter
and flown to a hospital for evaluation. Gallery. See
