Ventura County Search and Rescue East Valley Team 3 (VCSAR 3) is comprised of highly dedicated and skilled volunteers who are able to respond to wilderness emergencies in Ventura County. VCSAR 3 team members are extensively trained in search techniques, technical rope rescue, tracking, swiftwater rescue, communications, winter operations, urban search and rescue, and search management. For over 25 years, VCSAR Team 3 has participated in wilderness and urban search and rescue operations under the direction of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. The VCSAR 3 team has met the rigorous requirements of the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) since 1989 and is a member of the California Region of the MRA. The VCSAR 3 team's response area includes the Ventura County portion of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Susanna Mountains. The VCSAR 3 team assists the other search and rescue teams in Ventura County: Fillmore, Upper Ojai, Dive, Canine, Posse, and Medical. The VCSAR 3 team is capable of responding outside of Ventura County and has assisted is search and rescue operations in the Sierras and throughout the State of California.

January 31, 2015: Missing Person - Simi Valley

01/31/15, Saturday 08:00 – 13:00 Hours

A 76-year-old man went missing in November 2014 in Simi Valley. The local police searched the residential areas and conducted investigation on his disappearance. The East Valley team and the Canine teams were requested to search the Simi Valley Arroyo. The subject remains missing.

December 17, 2014: Mudslides - Camarillo Springs

A heavy rain fall hit the area causing major mudslides into homes in the Camarillo Springs area. The team was called out to assist with evacuations in the area.

December 12, 2014: Mudslides - Newbury Park

12/12/14, Friday 02:50 - 07:30 Hours

The team was activated to assist during a very heavy rain storm that was causing mudslides in residential areas and along the Pacific Coast Highway. The team members prepared residents for possible evacuations and help mitigate flooding.

December 7, 2014: Three Lost Hikers - Point Mugu State Park

Three males went for a hike out of the Sandstone Peak trailhead to the top of Sandstone Peak. The area around Boney Mountain has many trailheads with a maze of marked and un-marked trails. The hikers got turned around and once darkness fell, found themselves unable to find their way out.

The East Valley team along with members of Fillmore and Upper Ojai teams assisted the Santa Barbara Search and Rescue team to provide medical rescue response for the multi-day Halloween street party in Isla Vista near the University of Santa Barbara. Normally there is a very large number of people attending with multiple a medical incidents.
